Lunch will be very special today as you can „eat like a German chancellor“ at the Deidesheimer Hof. Former chancellor Helmut Kohl was a big fan of „Saumagen“ a local speciality. It consists of a pigs stomach stuffed with potatoes, pork, onions, spices and herbs which is fried or roasted in the oven. Of course there will be an alternative menu available. After lunch you drive to Schweigen-Rechtenbach the southern end of the German Wine Route. Here you can pass the German Wine Gate on foot. The morning will be spent with a walking tour discovering the picturesque half-timbered houses of the old town and St Martin’s Cathedral. A contrast to this will be St. Stephen’s church with its luminous blue stained glass windows created by Marc Chagall. But please take your time to explore Mainz on your own. Maybe you want to visit the Gutenberg Museum where you can see the two copies of the world famous Gutenberg Bible. Or you would rather spend some time in one of the wine taverns enjoying a Rheinhessen wine or have an ice cream at the river. Lunch and afternoon are at leisure. In the evening it would be a 30 minute walk or a short drive from your hotel to the next village Harxheim for a 3 course dinner at the Harxheimer Weinstube.

The rooms feature free WIFI, flat screen TVs, laptop safes, a minibar with wine and soft drinks, coffee and tea making facilities, organic cosmetics, a sofa or an armchair and desks. The restaurant „Dining Room“ offers a stunning panoramic view over the rolling hills of Rheinhessen and serves local specialities with an international touch.
